Welcome to the website of Dutch author Ineke Roberta Riem.
Ineke (born in 1980) is a writer and poet from Amsterdam. She is known for her imaginative style and detailed ink drawings. Her work (published by Uitgeverij De Arbeiderspers) includes two novels, two collections of short stories and another two of poetry. Ineke enjoys writing about eccentric characters, nature and history.
She studied Dutch Literature at Groningen University (NL) and University College London (UK). She also studied a year at Rietveld Art Academy (NL). Her first novel ‘Seven Attempts to Wake Up a Loved One’ - a modern fairytale with a twist - was awarded the Bronze Owl Prize for best debut in 2013 and was shortlisted for the Academica Literature Prize 2014. In 2021 a poem about her mothers doubts regarding Ineke’s carreer choice was awarded the Flemish Melopee Poetry Prize.
Ineke Roberta Riem is currently working on her third novel, about a Dutch astronomer who travels to Maunakea Observatories in Hawai‘i and finds herself caught in the middle of the 2019 protests against the construction of the Thirty Meter Telescope.
